Trench Heating - Benefits and Options

Trench Heating by TrenchStyle - Benefits and Options

What is Trench heating?

Trench Heating is also known as Perimeter Heating or Canal Heating.
Trench Heaters are Radiators which are built into the Floor as InFloor Radiators, they are heat fed from a Traditional Central Heating system or Hot water sytem like a standard Radiator.
The heat output can be controlled like a normal radiator using a thermostatic valve, generally with a remote above floor temperature sensing device.
The Trench Radiator will be covered by a Trench Heater grille to allow cool air to enter and warm air to leave. Effectively the Grille at floor level will be the only part of the Trench Heater which is visible.

Why would I use Trench Heating?

Trench or Perimeter Heating is often fitted when radiator wall space is at a premium or design requires walls to be clear of heating appliances for aesthetic reasons. It is also fitted adjacent to glass facades, glass doors etc as it provides targetted heating.

Trench Heating can be used in three heating instances.
Primary Heating - Trench Heaters can be used as the sole heating method within a room or area, offering discrete stylish comfortable heat while maintaining aesthetics.
Secondary Heating - To complement or boost existing heating systems the Trench Radiators add flexibile Heating to your home, office or commercial premises, ensuring a more balnced heat dispersal throughout the room.
Targetted Heating - Trench and Canal Heating is perfect for addressing problem areas such as Glazed areas which are prone to condensation or room cool spots, the Perimeter heating creates a heat curtain which stops condensation and keeps the areas at a more comfortable even temperature.

Trench Heaters can be retrofitted to existing heating installations or added at build stage.

Are there Trench Heating Options?

There are a number of options and requirements when considering suitable Trench Heating.
Firstly you need to establish your BTU heating requirement, this can be done with a Standard Heatloss Calculator
We also need to decide where the Trench Heating will be fitted, generally along vertical structures such as walls, doors, window areas, steps are popular, although perimeter heating is increasingly being used adjacent to walkways running through the middle of operational areas.
It is also worth considering the spread of heat within an area and if possible to distribute the infloor radiators evenly within the room or work area.
Dimmensions then need to be considered, generally the deeper you go the gretaer the BTU output you can achieve, however you can still achieve strong heat outputs with shallow units if you can have reasonable length and width sizes.
OK So you have your required Trench Heater, the Grille the most visible part of the unit needs to be decided upon, Rigid or Roll Up, Wood, Aluminium, Stainless Steel are all popular Trench Heating Grilles.
Finally there is also the option of fan assistance, basically the ultra quiet fan comes on when the central heating system temperature rises or the thermostatic valves opens and shuts off when the temperature in the hot water system falls. The benefit of the Fan Assisted Canal Heaters is that the BTU output is significantly increased.
